How much does lomitapide lower LDL cholesterol?
Lomitapide lowered LDL cholesterol by a mean of 40% from baseline at 26 weeks in an adult HoFH study, using the intent-to-treat analysis. Read the evidence.
| Dose and treatment context | LDL result |
|---|---|
| Individually titrated regimen, week 26 | 40% from baseline |
This was a single-arm trial, not a placebo-controlled comparison. Larger percentages reported for study completers use a different analysis population.
Individual responses vary. LDL and ApoB measure different things; these LDL percentages should not be used as ApoB estimates. Compare ApoB-lowering treatments.
How is lomitapide taken?
Juxtapid starts at 5 mg once daily and is increased gradually if tolerated, up to 60 mg daily. Take it without food, at least two hours after the evening meal. Treatment requires a low-fat diet, specified vitamin and fatty-acid supplements, and scheduled liver monitoring. Prescribing information.
How does lomitapide compare with other medications?
Unlike infused Evkeeza, lomitapide is taken orally, but it carries a boxed warning for hepatotoxicity and is distributed through a REMS program. Neither is a routine treatment for ordinary high LDL.
Which medications can be combined with lomitapide?
Lomitapide is used with other LDL-lowering therapy for HoFH. Strong and moderate CYP3A4 inhibitors are contraindicated. It can also change exposure to simvastatin and warfarin, so specialist medication review and monitoring are essential.
